At first, Hela Cheikhrouhou, who graduated from HEC Montréal with a degree in finance, put her skills to work for the markets during her early days at the City Bank of Tunis and as Director of Latin America’s private and financial sectors for the World Bank. But then, she turned to development as the focus of her career. Ms. Cheikhrouhou joined the African Development Bank (ADB), where she headed the ? nancial infrastructure division before becoming Director of the Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department. That springboard allowed the 43-year-old mother of two to become the current Executive Director of the United Nations Green Climate Fund, which helps poor countries ? ght climate change. “This is the opportunity of a generation,” she says. Given Ms. Cheikhrouhou’s achievements, her contract is likely to be renewed in 2016.
